Young Cultural Creators

The Year 8 Art class working with Art teacher Ms K Smith and School Librarian Ms Jessup are currently involved in the Young Cultural Creators Project.  The group recently visited the Wallace Collection - home to one of Europe’s finest collections of works of art on the 26 January.  Here they were introduced to some of the works by the teenage fiction writer Bridget Crowley.  The students made notes about the works and are now to produce a short story which will be accompanied by a work of art for a public exhibition to be held at Streatham Library in April. Bridget Crowley will be visiting Dunraven on the 27 February to oversee the written work.  We will keep you all informed of the dates for the exhibition as it will be very well worth a visit.

NAGTY Assembly

On Monday, Ms Aslam and Mr Parsons held a assembly on NAGTY, the National Association of Gifted and Talented Youth. The 146 Dunraven students who are members enjoyed hearing about the opportunities that being a member of the Academy brings. After a music performance by two of our most able musicians, Harry Jardine and Calum Johnstone, Vinh Hoang and Tsun Wong gave a presentation about the kind of activities that NAGTY offers.  Dunraven students are encouraged to apply for the very popular university summer schools, as well as attend the NAGTY club meetings which will be running in the summer term.

The Dignity of Difference

Four Sixth Form Senior Prefects, Dionne Woodward, Korang Abdulla, Chris Webster and Sami Mouellef, represented Dunraven last Thursday on Holocaust Memorial Day at the annual Lambeth memorial event in Brixton Town Hall. "The visit to the Holocaust memorial event was an eye-opening and heart-warming experience" writes Korang: "The theme this year was the Dignity of Difference, highlighting how we are all the same but different and that learning to recognise this would prevent such atrocities as the Holocaust and the more recent genocides in Rwanda and Darfur ever happening again. Guest speakers included the Mayor of Lambeth, Liz Atkinson, and a variety of speakers from different backgrounds and faiths. Kosher food was on offer and music was played by Jewish bands, giving us a great all-round cultural experience."
