Love Reading: World
Book Day 2007

Thursday 1st March
is World Book Day 2007 and our Sixth
Form students are taking over assemblies this week to spread the
word about reading for pleasure. During English lessons, students
will have the chance to read, discuss and play around with a variety
of extracts from different genres, using these as inspiration to
write their own story openings.
The
official website is inviting adults to celebrate World Book Day's
10th Birthday by submitting their titles for Ten Books You Can't
Live Without. You can list your essential ten books for World Book
Day at
www.worldbookday10.com. Join
the debate in the GALAXY ® Booklovers' Forum and talk to others
about your recommendations.
www.lovereading4kids.co.uk is
the ultimate children's online independent bookstore. It contains
reading lists, author like-for-like recommendations, extracts from
new publications and reviews from Guardian books editor Julia
Eccleshare. Registration is free and you can download resources and
receive emails about forthcoming events and publications. The adult
version of this site
www.lovereading.co.uk should provide you with even further
inspiration. |
Zero !

All students are
encouraged to contribute material for the new Dunraven School
magazine, Zero. The first edition will be printed at Easter, with a
further edition each term. The magazine is FOR students and BY
students - none of the content will be produced by teachers or any
other adults. The magazine will be in full colour and will have a
quality feel to it, as it has been designed by a professional
designer working with our editorial team of students from different
year groups. Everyone will be offered a free copy. Please submit
articles on any subject by saving them as a WORD document in the new
school magazine folder by going to My Computer - Shared Documents -
School Magazine. Make sure you
put your name, tutor
group and the title on your file. You can submit photos or scanned
artwork as jpegs in the same folder. If you have artwork or cartoons
on paper, you can take them to the office to be put in the school
magazine box. Please do send us interesting, funny and
thought-provoking articles. You all have the opportunity to
contribute so it's no good complaining that the magazine is boring
if you haven't tried to make it exciting
and fun! Any questions, check
out the posters round the school or see Mr Beckett. |
