Year 12 AS Politics Visit to the
Houses of Parliament

On Monday 11 December the AS Politics class visited the Houses of Parliament. We were given a guided tour of the building, and were astonished by how small the House of Commons debating chamber actually is, especially in comparison to how it appears on television.  Keith Hill, MP for Streatham and a patron of Dunraven, also gave freely of his time to chair a question and answer session in private rooms in the Palace of Westminster. We had the opportunity to voice our concerns about Streatham, and other contemporary political issues that concern us.  Mr. Hill gave us an insight into his job as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Tony Blair and how he spends an average day. He was, as usual, very hospitable, enthusiastic and helpful.  A great visit all round!  (Korang Abdulla Y12 )

Happy New Year to all our readers!

Year 7 and 8 students heard about the London Pledge for children in London in their first assembly of the year 2007. The Student Pledge offers London students the opportunity to say:

" Before I am sixteen...

…I will have had the chance to express my views on London issues and be listened to.
… My academic, sporting or creative talents will have been celebrated — at school or outside.
… I will have taken part in a public event — either sports, dance or concert or visual arts.
…I will have taken part in a play, musical or reading that involves either acting, speaking or helping with the production.
- I will have been on an educational visit or overnight stay.
… I will have had the opportunity to help others through voluntary activities.
… I will have been to an artistic or sporting event at a major London venue.
… I will have learnt to understand other cultures and faiths.
… I will have planned, delivered and evaluated a project from beginning to end.
… I will have experienced cutting-edge science and technology"
